Don’t limit yourself to business agility…be a business athlete.

CIO Viewpoint

“CIO” is a different job today than it was even 10 years ago. Today, successful CIOs create and leverage external partner relationships to strategically manage business processes and technologies. They measure and enable transparency – internally and externally. They enable customers through strong partner solutions and balance the customer satisfaction-service-cost equation.

Credentials

Mike graduated from Florida State University with a B.S. in Political Science and served in the US Air Force Active Duty and Reserves as a Communications-Computer Officer. He received Air Force Space Command level recognition for his work certifying an operational missile weapons base for Year 2000.

His corporate experience includes Fortune 1000 company IT Executive leadership and Executive Advisory Consultant relationships for CFOs and CIOs in the Retail, Higher Education and Professional Services Industries. Mike’s recent clients in the Higher Education industry have boasted cost reductions of over 25% on specialty professional services spend in excess of $25M. One client has reduced contractual and procurement exposure by more than 35%, a forward-looking, reduction.

His approach for creating transparency into IT performance and value has been enabled in a Software-as-a-Service approach and has achieved widespread adoption.

Mike developed his passion for coaching and “rescue” through athletics. He was a walk-on football placekicker at Florida State – despite never kicking a football in a game prior to his FSU experience. Mike went on to mentor several High School Prep players, one of whom recently served in the Montana State House of Representatives. He has also co-founded two other companies. Sourcing Gurus, an IT Business Management and Outsourcing Advisory firm, and Birdie Car Wash, a hand-wash specialty company focusing on private golf country clubs. He loves spending time with his family on “Family Fun Night” (Fridays) and coaches his son’s youth baseball and football teams.

Memorable Battles

1997
US Air Force
Our unit was tasked with establishing safe and effective, but cost-efficient communication to our 20,000 square mile missile complex. I was told a 3rd party would not be successful. It saved millions and is still being used today.
2002-2004
Michaels Store
Our project was running long and over budget. I took a calculated risk and engaged a hardware vendor and the software vendor to create a technical solution to get us back on track. We beat our original timelines and saved over $3M.
